Eli Zal, who is the executive director of Literary Volunteers for the New York area discusses the program in this 1989 interview with Don Swaim. Twenty million adults in America can not read or write so the Literary Volunteers accept donations to help adults all over the country learn to read. The organization also developed a line of adult beginner reader books.
