Don Swaim Interviews

Audio Interview with Gloria Norris

Gloria Norris, author and editor, speaks with Don Swaim in this 1985 interview about Looking for Bobby and the various accents of the southern, midwestern, and northern states of America. A native of Mississippi, Gloria Norris studied speech and linguistics at Ohio State University and became editor-in-chief of the Book of the Month Club.

Norris talks about the lack of book sales and one thing considered is that movies cost six dollars and books cost twenty dollars. People don't want to pay the extra money. Regardless, Gloria Norris takes in to account that a movie is only a few hours long whereas a book could provide anywhere from six hours to several days of amusement. The difference in time of extended entertainment justifies paying more for a book.
