| Gordon Lish, author of What I Know So Far, Dear Mr. Capote and more, wants to write in a unique voice that stands out but still remain familiar to the reader. He strives to differ himself from other authors as much as he can. Although he was an editor, he talks about how an editor cannot successfully edit himself. He also discusses the style of speech of his characters, how he came to find his vocal stance in his writings and the presence of insanity in his stories. The main character of the book is six and feels powerless but through games and relationships tries to make himself feel less powerless. Lish believes all young children are full of misinformation and Peru represents a fantasyland for the main character, Gordon.
