Don Swaim Interviews

Audio Interview with Ian Ballantine

Ian Ballantine, author of Marine Paintings of Carl G. Evers, also one of the first person who introduced the paperback book to America, tells Don Swaim a comical story about an advertisement Ballantine created for a book. In 1939, America had a policy that kept European paperback books from being marketed in America; however, Ian Ballantine found loopholes around the laws and brought the paperback book to America. The paperback book revolutionized the American book market; two out of every three books sold in the U.S. are paperback books.
