Don Swaim Interviews

Audio Interview with Kaylie Jones

Kaylie Jones, daughter of James Jones, talks with Don Swaim in this 1986 interview. Kaylie did not start writing until after the death of her father when she reached college and it soon became something that she had to do. She makes a clear separation in her life between the father who raised her, and her father the writer. She says that it is a frightening position to be in, fearing criticism while writing in her father's shadow; however, the content of her novels proves her worth. As a young writer, she captures the essence of youth in her work, which may prove shocking to some older readers. Her novels include Celeste Ascending, A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries, As Soon As It Rains, Quite the Other Way and others.
