Interviews with Mary Morris |
Mary Morris, author of Crossroads, The Waiting Room, A Mother's Love, House Arrest and story collections including Vanishing Animals and The Bus of Dreams. Additionally, she is the author of two memoirs: Nothing to Declare and Wall to Wall. In this 1985 interview with Don Swaim, Mary Morris recalls her earlier days of writing and tells about every authors' worst nightmare happening to her for real. She was pushed to write poetry for a poetry reading event even though she insisted that she did not know how to write poetry. It turned out to be one of the best things that happened to her and ended up publishing a book of poetry. In this 1988 interview with Don Swaim, Mary Morris speaks about her two year voyage to Mexico for a third world experience. She did not stay in any of the nicer hotels or even drive but lived as though she was a native. Her experience was part of her inspiration to write Nothing to Declare. Having lived in Mexico, she says that Americans are misinformed about Central America. Listen
