Audio Interview with Oscar Hijuelos |
Oscar Hijuelos, author of The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love, Mr. Ives' Christmas, and several others, has always had a desire to write. He is an observer of other writer's works, and is disgusted by the presentation of passion in novels. His mission when writing love scenes is to add a degree of raunchiness not present in other novels. As Oscar Hijuelos wrote Our House in the Last World, it began to take on an autobiographic outlook. The pair discuss his novels in depth in this 1990 interview with Don Swaim. Listen
